Game thread: Astros 7, Mariners 1, bottom of 6th

The Mariners will take another shot at winning their first series of the season on what's been a dismal 1-4 trip thus far.

The Mariners will take another shot at winning their first series of the season on what’s been a dismal 1-4 trip thus far.

Joe Saunders keeps getting hit hard and Ronny Cedeno hit him the hardest in the fourth inning, drilling a three-run homer to left. Seriously, this season might be done before May 1. Astros now lead it 4-0.

12:02 p.m.: The Mariners have started off this game like they plan to lose it. Chris Carter hit a solo homer to left off Joe Saunders in the second inning. Saunders is starting to get hit harder and harder as this game moves along. The Mariners had two on in the second inning but Robert Andino struck out to end the rally.

11:00 a.m.: There is a new look to the team at shorstop today as Robert Andino replaces Brendan Ryan on a more permanent basis.

Raul Ibanez is back in there today. This is Eric Wedge’s way of trying to get him going. The Mariners could have a decision to make on Ibanez at some point once Franklin Gutierrez comes off the DL and they might as well figure out whether the 40-year-old can still play.

There will be a string of left-handed starters facing the Mariners in coming days and we’ll be seeing more of Jason Bay. So, this would be a good time for Ibanez to show he still has something.
