Mariners lineup vs. Rangers on Wednesday plus some notes

mlineup0703

Hopefully, I’ll have an update later today on Danny Hultzen, who was scratched from his scheduled start with Tacoma yesterday when he couldn’t get loose. That’s an ominous sign for a guy who was sidelined two months with a rotator cuff strain, and had made just one start since coming back. Here’s today’s Mariners’ minor-league report.

There’s word today that catcher Kelly Shoppach, designated for assignment when the Mariners promoted Mike Zunino, has signed a Triple-A contract with the Washington Nationals and will report to Syracuse. And Baseball America, which has been all over the international signings — yesterday was the first day for teams to sign young foreign players in places like the Dominican Republic and Venezuela — reported that the Mariners signed Dominican catcher Onil Pena¬† ($385,000 bonus) and Dominican outfielder Ronald Rosario ($350,000). Neither is ranked among their top 30 international prospects.
