Nick Franklin out of Mariner lineup after fouling ball off knee

UPDATED 10 A.M. SEATTLE TIME: The Reds just announced that the forecast has improved and the game is expected to start on time.

Here is today’s Mariner lineup — assuming there is a game. It’s been raining pretty hard all day, and the forecast for the 4:10 (Eastern time) start is iffy.

As you can see, Nick Franklin is out of the lineup, which is not surprising. His knee was swollen pretty badly last night after he fouled a bunt squarely off his kneecap. I would have been more surprised to see him back at second base. Eric Wedge had a few options, such as Dustin Ackley or Brendan Ryan at second. He chose to move Brad Miller from short to second and start Ryan at shortstop. Once again, without the DH, Wedge gives the nod to Kendrys Morales over Justin Smoak at first base.
