Raul Ibanez, Mariners bury Angels with home run barrage

The Mariners used four home runs to build up an 8-0 lead and survive a late flurry by the Angels to snap their three-game losing streak.

That’s two more home runs for Raul Ibanez and four by his Mariners tonight to rout the Los Angeles Angels by a score of 8-3. This one wasn’t even as close as the score looks, since the Angels couldn’t get any runs off starter Joe Saunders over his seven innings of work — adding three late ones in the eighth off Danny Farquhar when the Mariners were already up 8-0.

The pitching by Saunders was key and what had been missing from other Mariners offensive eruptions previously on this homestand. Remember, they’d scored 19 their three prior games only to lose all three.

Not this time as Ibanez clubbed homers No. 23 and 24 of the season so far, while Kyle Seager and Kendrys Morales also went deep.

The Mariners have been hitting the ball hard all homestand. But tonight, they got a more complete all-around game on the mound and at the plate.
