Official trade deadline blog post

It may look like regular early batting practice at Fenway Park, but really, there's a flurry of activity going on behind the scenes.

Mariners just said “nothing to report” as of 4:08 p.m.

4:08 p.m.: We’re into what the soccer folks call “injury time” or “stoppage time” now. The trade deadline has passed, with no Mariners deals reported. But it can often take 10 or even 15 minutes more to hear anything.

3:50 p.m.: Michael Morse is in today’s Mariners lineup. Kendrys Morales and Raul Ibanez also in it.

Expanded74 asks: Can we get an update on trade deadline rumors for the mariners?

Sure thing. Michael Morse has drawn interest, supposedly from Rays. A slew of other teams poking around on relief pitchers like Perez and Wilhelmsen. Kendrys Morales has drawn some interest as well.

Astros determined to top 120 losses this year.

There’s a cute one-liner in here, but I’ll let one of you make it. Anyhow, Bud Norris off the board. Orioles getting Hoes from Houston in return.

12:30 p.m.: Here’s a question from The Big EbuDo you think Morse or Saunders clear waivers for a possible August trade?

No I don’t. Neither is really earning big bucks, especially for two months. Both can help a contender, especially if you’re giving nothing up to get them.

Doesn’t bode well for a Morse or Morales deal, now does it?

12:10 p.m.: Not sure what this means, but we’re in the final hour before the trade deadline. The Mariners have yet to pull the trigger on anything. But we’ll be here at Trade HQ, monitoring it all…feel free to comment, bounce ideas back and forth and even ask me a question or two.
