Top first: The Mariners have the right guy on the mind to try and stop a hot-hitting Milwaukee team: King Felix. Hernandez goes three-up, three-down in the first inning and throws just 10 pitches to do it. Mariners 0, Brewers 0.
Bottom first: Mariners go three-up, three-down to open the game. Offense hasn’t done much this series. Mariners 0, Brewers 0.
Top second: Felix gets in his first bit of trouble, giving up a walk and and then a double, but battles back and gets the final two outs of the inning to strand runners at second and third. He’s looked sharp so far. Mariners 0, Brewers 0.
Bottom second: Mariners still without a hit through two innings. Haven’t really hit the ball too hard, either. Mariners 0, Brewers 0.
Top third: Felix really looks good so far today. He has four strikeouts already, and two Brewers showed bunt against him in the last inning. He looks that hard to hit right now. Mariners 0, Brewers 0.
Bottom third: Dustin Ackley leads off with a double to left – the Mariners’ first hit of the day – and Brendan Ryan follows with a ground out to second that advanced Ackley to third with one out. That turned out to be a huge play because Ackley then scored on a wild pitch. Mariners get their first lead of the series. Mariners 1, Brewers 0.
Top fourth: Brendan Ryan with an unbelievable play at shortstop. He comes charging in, barehands the ball and fires off balance to first for the out. Incredible. Felix now with five strikeouts. Brewers with only one hit. Mariners 1, Brewers 0.
Bottom fourth: Mariners go three-up, three-down for the third time in four innings. They have just one hit (and one baserunner for that matter) but they were efficient with their one chance. Mariners 1, Brewers 0.
Top fifth: Felix has six strikeouts, has retired 11 straight batters and still has allowed only one hit. Mariners 1, Brewers 0.
Bottom fifth: Justin Smoak absolutely crushed a solo home run to right field. He hit one Friday night too and now has 13 on the season. Brendan Ryan and Henry Blanco follow with singles, but Blanco is caught in a run down to end the inning. Mariners 2, Brewers 0.
Top sixth: Felix gets some nice defensive help in the sixth. After a bunt single to start the inning, Brad Miller and Brendan Ryan team up for a nice double play and Henry Blanco guns down a runner trying to steal second to end the inning. Mariners 2, Brewers 0.
Bottom sixth: Mariners go three-up, three-down for the fourth time in the game. Still lead, though. Mariners 2, Brewers 0.
Top seventh: Felix retires the side and adds another strikeout to his day. He now has struck out seven and still has only given up three hits. Mariners 2, Brewers 0.
Bottom seventh: The Mariners go in order for the fifth time. Michael Saunders comes in as a defensive replacement for Raul Ibanez in left field. With the way Felix is pitching, two runs should hold up.
Top eighth: Felix gives up one single but strikes out two more batters to bring his total to nine. He’s been fantastic today. He’s only had one inning where he allowed more than one runner. Mariners 2, Brewers 0.
Bottom eighth: Mariners go down in order for the sixth time this game. Farquhar comes into the game for the save. Mariners 2, Brewers 0.
