Mariners routed 7-1 in series finale
This game was still close in the fifth inning. But Nick Franklin struck out with the bases loaded in a tie game that frame, then he and shortstop Brad Miller got crossed up on a blooper to shallow center that fell in. Two hits later, the Mariners were down 5-1 and that was the ballgame.
The final score wound up being 7-1 and it accurately reflected how poor the Mariners looked on offense — amassing only five hits — as well as on defense.
Seattle is now 10 games under .500.
And yes, it only gets tougher from here with visits to Texas and Oakland. Unlike the Rays, neither of those teams had dropped six in a row as of yesterday.
