James Paxton takes the mound for his fourth career start tonight, coming off a rough outing last week against the Detroit Tigers. So far, it’s been pretty good for Paxton in his first taste of big league action. He faces a Royals club tonight that’s still desperately clinging to contention, needing to pretty much win-out the rest of the way.
As for another young Mariners pitching prospect, we told you earlier today that Danny Hultzen would be visiting with Dr. James Andrews at his Birmingham, Ala. clinic on Monday for a second opinion on the shoulder woes he began experiencing while in the Arizona Instructional League. Hultzen was preparing for the upcoming Arizona Fall League, but has since been shut down after a preliminary examination by Mariners team physician Dr. Ed Khalfayan revealed some type of labrum area issue.
So, the Mariners are sending Hultzen to see Andrews in order to figure out a plan of action for what to do next. If any labrum surgery is in the picture, you can rule Hultzen out for most if not all of the 2014 regular season.
