Shin Soo-Choo headed to the Rangers

The slim hope that the Mariners might somehow find the money and convince Shin Soo-Choo to come to Seattle was quashed early this morning.

After a few weeks of negotiations, the Rangers signed Choo to a 7-year, $130 million contract.

The chances of the Mariners signing Choo appeared to grow less likely in the past few weeks. Choo seemed intent on going to the Rangers, which was later confirmed.

Where does that leave the Mariners? They could still use outfield help. Nelson Cruz is still out there. The Rangers obviously have no need for him. While some people feel signing Cruz is big, I”m a little more skeptical because of his large asking price, his age (32), injury issues in the past, PED suspension and his defensive shortcomings.
