Report: Mariners to sign Joe Beimel to minor league contract

beimel tweet

Tim Brown of Yahoo has this tweet about Joe Beimel and the Mariners reaching an agreement on a minor league deal. Beimel is coming off Tommy John surgery. He’s a veteran guy, who has had some success in the past getting lefties out. The Mariners have lefties Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luetge in the bullpen. But there are lots of invites like this each spring. Seattle took a similar flyer on Oliver Perez a few years ago and it worked out. Maybe Beimel can help a bullpen that struggled last season. Furbush is a lock for the bullpen because of versatility, but Luetge shuffled back and forth between Seattle and Tacoma and has Triple A options remaining.
