Injury notes

Taijuan Walker will play long toss today and will probably pitch off the mound tomorrow, according to manager Lloyd McClendon

Brandon Maurer’s lower back is still stiff. But they’re hoping he will play flat ground catch.

Third base coach John Stearns underwent surgery on repair a hiatal hernia on Monday at Arrowhead hospital. Stearns had experienced pain in his abdomen shortly after arriving in spring training. He was diagnosed and the surgery was scheduled.  The laparoscopic surgery was performed by Dr. Jamison Foster. Sterns will not be allowed to participate in baseball activities for four to six weeks. McClendon said that he and general manager Jack Zduriencik are meeting to discuss internal options for that spot. Obviously, Daren Brown, who served as third base coach last season, seems like a possible candidate.
