Mariners 4, Dodgers 1 — another day, another Cactus League win

OFFICIAL BOX SCORE … 03.04.14 Box Score

Yep, another day, another Cactus League win for the Mariners. On Tuesday, they picked up a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers to improve to 6-1 this spring.

Felix Hernandez got the start. He went two innings, and didn’t allow a run with two hits with a walk and a strikeout.

He said it was both good and bad.

He called his change-up garbage.

He knew Puig would probably swing at the first pitch of the game if it was a fastball, but in his first start of the spring, there was no way he would throw anything other than fastball on that first pitch.

When asked about people saying he looks skinnier on the mound, he replied: “I look pretty good. I’m trying look good, ya know?”

“He was very poised and continued to make pitches, that’s what veteran guys do,” manager Lloyd McClendon said.

The Mariners picked up three runs in third inning. Mike Zunino had a double down the line, Brad Miller and Kyle Seager had RBI singles.

James Jones also had interesting day. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored. He had a base running mistake in the third inning, but also got in the head of Jamey Wright in the fourth inning. Wright threw over to first one too many times, uncorking a bad throw that allowed Jones to race to third. He later scored on a Wright wild pitch.

Minor leaguer Ketel Marte got the start at second and played well. He stole a base, got a single and made a few nice plays in the field.

In the highlights … there’s some action of Felix Herandez’s first inning, Mike Zunino doubling to right-center, shortstop Chris Taylor making a nice play in the field, Marte stealing second and singling and former Mariner Trayvon Robinson hitting a homer.
