GAME NOTES …. 03.08.14 ST Game Notes (at SF)

Also scheduled to pitch: Hector Noesi, Joe Beimel and possibly Chance Ruffin

Jerry Brewer will be handling the game updates from Scottsdale, while I will handle tonight’s game. I’m sure Jerry’s updates will feature less typos, more cogent thoughts and observations and pretty columnist writing.

FIRST INNING
Top 1st: Mariners take 4-0 lead with a pair of two-run homers — one from Brad Miller, the other from Michael Saunders — off Ryan Vogelsong.
Bot 1st: Erasmo Ramirez pitches a 1-2-3 inning (Blanco, Belt, Posey).
Mariners 4, Giants 0

SECOND INNING
Top 2nd: Mariners go down 1-2-3 (Buck, Chavez, Miller).
Bot 2nd: Ramirez walks Perez with two outs, but retires the side without running into trouble. Ramirez looks sharp. He hasn’t allowed a hit through two innings. He’s scheduled to pitch four innings.
Mariners 4, Giants 0

THIRD INNING
Top 3rd: Mariners score five runs, four of them unearned, taking advantage of poor Giants defense. Kelly reaches base with a leadoff walk, then Corey Hart strikes out. A Vogelsong error put Logan Morrison on base, giving the Mariners running at 1st and 2nd with one out. Saunders comes through with an RBI single, scoring Kelly, to give the Mariners a 5-0 lead. The Mariners chase Vogelsong after 2 1/3 innings. Then, against new pitcher Yusmeiro Petit, Bloomquist hits a two-run single to make it 7-0. Buck reaches second base, and Bloomquist advances to third after Perez drops a fly ball. Then Chavez hits a two-run single for a 9-0 lead.
Bot 3rd: Another 1-2-3 inning for Ramirez, who has yet to allow a hit.
Mariners 9, Giants 0

FOURTH INNING
Top 4th: Mariners go down 1-2-3 (Kelly, Hart, Morrison).
Bot 4th: Ramirez surrendered a hit to Sandoval, but that’s all. Very nice four innings of work, allowing only one hit, walking one batter and striking out four.
Mariners 9, Giants 0

FIFTH INNING
Top 5th: Ackley doubles, but that’s all the Mariners get.
Bot 5th: Hector Noesi enters the game for Ramirez and enjoys a 1-2-3 inning.
Mariners 9, Giants 0

SIXTH INNING
Top 6th: Mariners go down 1-2-3.
Bot 6th: Ehire Adrianza hits a leadoff double off Noesi. Then Noesi walks Mark Minicozi, leading to Andrew Susac’s two-run double.
Mariners 9, Giants 2

SEVENTH INNING
Top 7th: After Morrison singles and Saunders walks, Ackley hits a two-run triple, on a hard hit groundball just fair down the right-field line. Ackley scores on D.J. Petersen’s bunt hit. With three more runs, Mariners take a 12-2 lead.
Bot 7th: (Joe Beimel now pitching for Mariners): Roger Kieshnick walks and later scofres on a Juan Ciriaco sacrifice fly.
Mariners 12, Giants 3

EIGHTH INNING
Top 8th: Giants pitcher Sergio Romio  can’t locate his pitches and has an awful outing, leaving the game without  recording an out. Five straight hitters reached base against Romio, three via singles and two via walks. Leon Landry scores after Tyler Smith walks with the bases loaded. Ji-Man Choi has an RBI single up the middle. Romio is replaced by Jake Dunning, who promptly gives up an RBI single to Jabari Blash. D.J. Peterson adds a sac fly for a 17-3 lead.
Bot 8th: Stephen Shackleford comes in to pitch, allows a single but nothing else.
Mariners 17, Giants 3

NINTH INNING
Top 9th: Leon Landry singles and scores on a Tyler Smith groundout.
Bot 9th: Chance Ruffin gets a 1-2-3 inning to finish off the Giants.

Final score: Mariners 18, Giants 3
