The people who left early for Old Country Buffet or the early bird at Denny’s or happy hours on 83rd avenue missed out on a great comeback.
Down 8-3, the Mariners scored six runs in the eighth inning to pull off a crazy rally.
Michael Dowd blasted a bases-loaded ground double to left to score two runs, Cole Gillespie followed with a two-run triple to right-center field, Chris Taylor then hit an RBI double off the wall in CF to tie the game. Taylor moved to third on a passed ball and then scored the game-winning run Xavier Avery’s a rocket off of pitcher’s Cory Burns’ body.
Logan Bawcom got the save in the ninth inning. He hit the first batter he faced, but a strike out, throw out double play on a steal attempt helped greatly.
Felix Hernandez wasn’t great, but wasn’t concerned. Fernando Rodney got hit around.
Willie Bloomquist had three hits and made a nice plays at second base.
Brad Miller also had a pair of hits.
