Let’s play guess the line-up …

Sitting here in the bowels of Angels Stadium as we wait for the clubhouse to open.

Let’s play guess the line-ups to start the season. This isn’t what I would do, but what McClendon might do based on what he saw this spring.

Vs. Right-handed starting pitcher

  1. CF Abraham Almonte
  2. SS Brad Miller
  3. 2B Robinson Cano
  4. 1B Justin Smoak
  5. 3B Kyle Seager
  6. DH Logan Morrison (sometimes Corey Hart)
  7. RF Michael Saunders
  8. LF Dustin Ackley
  9. C Mike Zunino

Vs. left-handed starting pitcher

  1. CF Abraham Almonte
  2. SS Brad Miller
  3. 2B Robinson Cano
  4. 1B Justin Smoak
  5. DH Corey Hart
  6. 3B Kyle Seager
  7. RF Stefen Romero
  8. LF Dustin Ackley
  9. C Mike Zunino

These are just guesses. Many people have asked me how long will McClendon go with Almonte at the top if he doesn’t hit. I honestly have no idea. Because we haven’t covered him, we have no background knowledge of how McClendon handles these things. I think he will give Almonte plenty of opportunities. Had Hart been playing more or been healthy most of the spring, I would probably move him to the clean-up spot. But I don’t think McClendon will do that.

I do think because of Romero’s presence and the lefty-heavy roster that we won’t see a routinely set line-up. I think Seager could move up and down. Basically Cano will be the constant at third and Zunino a constant around 8-9.
