Mariners minor league report, April 5 — Taijuan Walker makes rehab start with High Desert

After having their season opener rained out, the Rainiers played double header with two seven inning games. Blake Beavan worked the first game and pitched all seven innings, giving up one run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in an 11-1 win. The Rainiers dropped the nightcap, 6-3.

Nick Franklin played both games — one at second base and one at shortstop – and went 5-for-8 with a homer and two RBI. Jesus Montero had three hits in the first game.

Class AA Jackson was blanked 2-0 by Chattanooga. They did get solid pitching, holding the Lookouts to just three hits.

Class A High Desert picked up a 5-4 win. Taijuan Walker got the rehab start for the Mavs and  pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up two runs on on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Second baseman Brock Hebert had a walk-off triple, scoring Steve Baron to get the win.

With temps projected to fall below freezing in Cedar Rapids, Class A Clinton had it’s game postponed.
