FINAL: Angels 2, Mariners 0

Quick reminder on the news of the day before the Mariners and Angels game Wednesday: Pitcher James Paxton was placed on the 15-day DL while Hisashi Iwakuma threw off a mound for the first time since February.

And now on to the game…

Bottom 9th: Cano leads off the inning by grounding out. Justin Smoak walked. Corey Hart struck out looking. Kyle Seager ended the game by grinding out. The Mariners get just one hit, and it came in the first inning. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Top 9th: Angels get one base runner but no runs. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Bottom 8th: Three up, three down for the Mariners. Offense is struggling — to say the least. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Top 8th: Three up, three down. Angels 2, Mariners 0.

Bottom 7th: Corey Hart leads off with a walk but the Mariners go down in order after that. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Top 7th: The Mariners use three relievers — Dominic Leone, Joe Beimel and Yoervis Medina — and Medina gets a ground out with two runners on base to end the inning. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Bottom 6th: Brad Miller reaches on an error to start the inning, but Cano hits into a fielder’s choice and Smoak into grounds into a double play. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Top 6th: Angels go three up, three down against reliever Dominic Leone, who is in for Roenis Elias. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Bottom 5th: Mariners go three up, three down for the second straight inning. Angels 2, Mariners 0.

Top 5th: Elias works around a leadoff single. He’s thrown 91 pitches through five innings. He’s struggled at times with command but has generally been able to keep that from coming back to bite him.

Bottom 4th: Corey Hart demolishes a ball into the upper deck in left field — but it’s foul. He then flies out. Kyle Seager hits a deep drive to the warning track in center field — but Mike Trout tracks it down. The Mariners go down in order. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Top 4th: Angels go down in order. Angels 2, Mariners 0.

Bottom 3rd: The Mariners get Almonte (single) and Miller (error) but Robinson Cano grounds out and Justin Smoak strikes out to end the threat. Mariners have stranded four base runners tonight. Angels 2, Mariners 0. 

Top 3rd: Albert Pujols crushes a 2-run home run off Elias with two outs. First really hard-hit ball off Elias tonight. Angels 2, Mariners 0.

Bottom 2nd: Seager, Morrison, Ackley go down in order. Mariners 0, Angels 0.

Top 2nd: Elias gives up a leadoff single to Howie Kendrick but gets the next three batters to groundout. Mariners 0, Angels 0.

Bottom 1st: Abraham Almonte and Justin Smoak each walk, but Corey Hart flied out with two outs tot end the inning. Mariners 0, Angels 0.

Top 1st: Roenis Elias, tonight’s starter for the Mariners, gave up a two-out single to Albert Pujols but that’s it. Mariners 0, Angels 0.
