Game thread: Mariners at Rangers — April 16, 2014

First inning

Abraham Almonte flared a single into center off the glove of Josh Wilson to start the game. Brad Miller lined out. Almonte was almost doubled off first on Robinson Cano’s liner to center. Kyle Seager grounded out to first to end the inning.

Felix fives up a double to Alex Rios with two outs, but he got Prince Fielder to ground out to second to end the inning

Mariners 0, Rangers 0

Second inning

In his first at-bat, Nick Franklin hammered a Darvish fastball into right-center for a triple. Dustin Ackley drew a tw0-out walk. Mike Zunino delivered, singling up the middle on a Darvish breaking ball to score Franklin. Abraham Almonte followed with his second hit of the game – a sharp single to score Ackley.

Felix with a 1-2-3 inning.

Mariners 2, Rangers 0

Third inning

Kyle Seager had a one-out single up the middle. But that’s about it. Saunder flew out and Franklin struck out looking

Felix got into a spot of trouble, giving up back-to-back two-out hits to Choo and Andrus. But he came back to strike out Alex Rios looking with a nasty pitch on the corner.

Mariners 2, Rangers 0

Fourth inning

The Mariners had Darvish working again.  Smoak had a lead-off single and Zunino came up with a one-out bloop single. But Almonte struck out and Miller flew out to end the inning.

Felix issued a two-out walk to Mitch Moreland, but he gets Josh Wilson ground out fielder’s choice. The play was close enough for manager Ron Washington to argue, but not challenge.

Fifth inning

Saunders drew a two-out walk and stole second. But Franklin struck out to end the inning

Felix is rolling. He ended the inning with a nasty change-up to Choo for a strikeout.

Mariners 2, Rangers 0
