Mariners minor league report, April 28

Class AAA Tacoma picked up a 5-3 win over Las Vegas with Jesus Montero hitting another home run. But the bigger news was that Hisashi Iwakuma made his first rehab start and allowed 3 runs (2 ER) on 6 hits in 4 innings pitched.

Montero currently has a 11-game hit streak with 5 consecutive 2-hit games, batting .378 (17×45) with 8 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 14 RBI and 3 walks. Overall this season he is batting .318 (21×66) with 12 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 18 RBI and 4 walks.

Montero’s hitting has people noticing. But over the last few years, I’ve really questioned some of the numbers being put up in the PCL. And I take most numbers in the PCL with a baseball-sized grain of salt.

Class AA Jackson lost 8-1 at Mobile. Here’s Chris Harris’ Sunday column for the Jackson Sun.

Class A High Desert lost 7-3 to Stockton.  Erasmo Ramirez made the start giving up  six  runs (five earned) on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7 in six innings.

Class A Clinton lost its fifth straight game with a 12-1 defeat.  Burt Reynolds did his first home run of the season. Clinton game notes … 4.28.14 Clinton Game Notes
