Game thread: Mariners at A’s — May 5, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-05-05 at 2.51.39 PM

First inning

Pretty good start for Seattle.  Saunders and  Romero with back-to-back singles. After Cano strikes out, Hart singles through the right side to score Saunders and allow Romero to race to third. Kyle Seager’s ground ball off the glove of Barton was fielded by Sogard and thrown to first for an out. But it allowed Romero to score. A 2-0 first inning lead? The M’s will happily take that.

A quick 1-2-3 inning for Young. O.co’s big outfield and foul territory and the cooler weather could really help him tonight.

Mariners 2, A’s 0

Second inning

Miller took a five pitch walk from Kazmir with two outs, but  Saunders hard liner to right as caught.

Young issued a one-out walk to Callaspo but got Jaso to hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

Mariners 2, A’s 0

Third inning

1-2-3 innings for both pitchers.

Mariners 2, A’s 0

Fourth inning

The A’s tie the game as Brandon Moss hammers a two-run homer off of young into the rightfield stands.

Mariners 2, A’s 2.

Fifth inning

M’s retake the lead as Stefen Romero hit his first homer of the season – a laser into left field.

Young works a 1-2-3 inning.

Mariners 3, A’s 2

Sixth inning

Gillespie led off the inning with a single and later scored when  Miller’s liner to left field was lost in the lights by Moss. The M’s could have had some more runs. But after stealing second and third, Miller was thrown out at home trying to score on a ground ball to third. Zunino was later thrown out at third trying go first to third on Saunders fly ball to center.

A’s go down 1-2-3.

Mariners 4, A’s 2
