Mariners minor league report, May 22 — Diaz delivers for Clinton

Class AAA Tacoma

The Rainiers dropped a second straight game at Cheney Stadium, falling 3-1 to Reno.  TJ Cotterill of the TNT has this feature game story on Jesus Montero, who said he’s dropped about 15 pounds.  Tacoma had just two hits in the game. Class AA Jackson

The Generals gave up four runs in the sixth inning in an eventual 6-2 loss at Jacksonville. Ketel Marte had three hits and Leon Landry added a pair of hits.

Class A High Desert

The Mavericks picked up a 4-3 road win at Lake Elsinore.  Gaby Guerrero went 2-for-5 with a RBI triple. Tyler Marlette also had two hits in the game.

Class A Clinton

Started Edwin Diaz and reliever Aaron Brooks combined for an eight-hit shutout in a 5-0 win. Diaz pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits with a walk and a strikeout. Diaz was rated as the No. 5 prospect in the Mariners’ organization by Baseball America.
