First inning

A nice little nine-pitch 1-2-3 inning for Iwakuma.

Mariners go down 1-2-3

Mariners 0, Astros 0

Second inning

The Astros load the bases on a fielder’s choice and back to back singles, but Kuma gets out of the inning, getting Carlos Corporan to ground into a 4-6-3 double play.

M’s get a run. Zunino and Saunders come up with back-to-back singles. Cole Gillespie had a swinging bunt single which Keuchel threw away to allow Zunino to score. No RBI for Gillespie.

Mariners 1, Astros 0

Third inning

Iwakuma gave up a lead-off single to Marwin Gonzalez. But Zunino helped him out by grabbing a shorthopped splitfinger and firing to second base to get the stealing Gonzalez by three steps. Iwakuma then retired the next two batters with ease.

M’s go down 1-2-3.

Fourth inning

Iwakuma gives up a lead-off single to Dexter Fowler, but immediately got Jason Castro to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to erase the runner.

M’s go 1-2-3 against Keuchel, who is getting stronger.

Mariners 1, Astros 0

Fifth inning

A quick 1-2-3 inning for Kuma.  He’s at 56 pitches.

Keuchel with a 1-2-3 inning. He’s at 59 pitches.

Mariners 1, Astros 0

Sixth inning

And the lead is gone. Iwakuma gave up broken back single to Pocket Altuve and then George Springer hit a two-run dinger that did not linger and landed in the visitor’s bullpen.

M’s go down 1-2-3 … Keuchel has retired 13 straight.

Astros 2, Mariners 1

Seventh inning

Astros tack on two more as Dominguez doubled and Krauss homered into right field. A 4- 1lead might as well be 40-1

Smoak lined out hard to first. Seager got the M’s first single since the second inning, but Zunino grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Astros 4, Mariners 1

Eighth inning

M’s go down 1-2-3  on two weak ground balls and a strikeout.
