FINAL: Angels 7, Mariners 5

Brandon Maurer struggled from the get go, lasting only four innings and giving up five runs in Seattle’s 7-3 loss. The Mariners were never able to recover from that early hole as the Angels pounded out 15 hits — even without Albert Pujols in the lineup. The Mariners, it should be noted, were without Robinson Cano. You can read the full pregame notebook here.

Bottom 9th: Michael Saunders leads off the inning with a walk. Justin Smoak struck out swinging after nearly lining a ball down the right field line. Kyle Seager then rips a two-run homer that cuts the Angels lead to 7-5. Stefen Romero flied out to second, and Dustin Ackley struck out to end the game. Angels 7, Mariners 5.

Top 9th: C.J. Cron doubles with one out off Farquhar and scores when John McDonald singles to left field. Angels 7, Mariners 3.

Bottom 8th: Brad Miller singles for the second time tonight, but that’s all the Mariners get. Angels 6, Mariners 3.

Top 8th: Danny Farquhar comes in with two outs, promptly gives up two singles but then gets Howie Kendrick to ground out to end the inning. Angels 6, Mariners 3.

Bottom 7th: Mariners go three up, three down for the fifth time tonight. Angels 6, Mariners 3.

Top 7th: Joe Beimel gives up a single and walk but gets out of the jam. Angels 6, Mariners 3.

Bottom 6th: Brad Miller and James Jones lead off with singles and Michael Saunders drives in Miller with a sac fly. Angels 6, Mariners 3.

Top 6th: Mike Trout drives in a run with a single off Dominic Leone. Angels 6, Mariners 2.

Bottom 5th: Three up, three down for the Mariners for the fourth time tonight. Angels 5, Mariners 2.

Top 5th: Raul Ibanez triples when James Jones misplays a ball in center field and allows it to roll to the warning track. But the Angels can’t drive him in with one out. Angels 5, Mariners 2.

Bottom 4th: James Jones doubles and Michael Saunders hits a two-run homer, his third of the season, to cut the Angels lead. Angels 5, Mariners 2.

Top 4th: C.J. Cron hits a triple off the centerfield wall, and Grant Green drives him in with a bloop single with two outs. Maurer then gives up a two-out single followed by a two-out walk followed by a three-run home run by Erick Aybar on a 3-2 count. Close to escaping with limited damage but couldn’t do it. Angels 5, Mariners 0.

Bottom 3rd: Three up, three down. Mariners have struck out three times tonight. No hits. Angels 1, Mariners 0.

Top 3rd: Maurer walks his third batter of the night in the inning but doesn’t give up any runs. He’s given up three walks and two singles tonight. Angels 1, Mariners 0.

Bottom 2nd: Mariners go three up, three down for the second straight inning. Angels 1, Mariners 0.

Top 2nd: Brad Miller commits an error at shortstop, and Maurer follows it up with a four-pitch walk. But Maurer gets an inning-ending double play to erase the threat. Angels 1, Mariners 0.

Bottom 1st: Not a good start for the Mariners. Three up, three down. Franklin and Saunders both struck out. Angels 1, Mariners 0.

Top 1st: Brandon Maurer walks the first batter he faces of the night, then gives up a single. Mike Trout drives in a run with a sac fly to give the Angels an early lead. Angels 1, Mariners 0.
