Mariners minor league report, June 13 — High Desert scores 18 runs in a game

Class AAA Tacoma

The Rainiers had an early afternoon game and rolled to a  6-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds. Abraham Almonte hit a three-run homer (video) and Chris Taylor went 2-for-4 with a double. Starter Jordan Pries pitched seven shutout innings, giving up six hits.

Roster move: RHP Forrest Snow was promoted to Tacoma from Class AA Jackson.

Class AA Jackson

The Generals had an off day.

From the notes … OF Jamal Austin currently has a 11-game hit steak, batting .400 (18×45) with 11 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 RBI and 5 stolen bases. SS Ketel Marte has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games, batting .313 (20×64) with 10 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 10 RBI, 1 walk and 2 stolen base.

Class A High Desert

It was one of those nights in hitter-friendly Adelanto. The Mavericks rolled to a 18-6 win over Lake Elsinore, banging out 24 hits  and scoring nine runs in the fourth inning.  Tyler Smith went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple and two RBI. DJ Peterson continues to hit well at home, blasting another homer. Jabari Henry had three hits, including a double and a homer and four RBI. Gabby Guerrero also had three hits.

From the report: Peterson has hit 12 of his 14 home runs this season in his last 30 games (since 5/11). Peterson has hit safely 14 of his
last 16 games, batting .389 (28×72) with 17 runs scored, 9 doubles, 6 home runs, 23 RBI, 8 walks and 2 stolen bases. Since May 8, he is
batting .343 (48×140) with 30 runs scored, 14 doubles, 12 home runs, 43 RBI, 13 walks and 4 stolen bases. During this stretch he has
raised his season batting average from .267 to .310.

Peterson does have some dramatic home/road splits

But I’d expect him to be moving up to Class AA Jackson in the next few weeks.

Class A Clinton

The LumberKings banged out 11 hits, but lost 3-2 in 11 innings to Burlington. Chantz Mack, Martin Peguero and Aaron Barbosa had two hits each in the loss. Starter Edwin Diaz pitched six innings giving up two runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
