Mariners minor league report, June 10 — Smoak homers twice for Tacoma

 Class AAA Tacoma

Justin Smoak hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs, but Rainiers starter Andrew Carraway gave up eight runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 inning pitched in a 10-4 loss at Salt Lake City. Here’s video of his second homer.  Smoak has eight hits and 7 RBI in his last three games.

Class AA Jackson

The Generals had an off day

  • From the report: OF Julio Morban has hit safely in 11 of his last 14 games with 7 multi-hit efforts, batting .340 (18×53) 
  • with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 4 RBI and 5 walks. 3B D.J. Peterson has hit safely in 12 of 13 games with Jackson, batting .283 (15×53) with 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 7 RBI and 3 walks. 

Class A High Desert

The Mavericks prevailed in a 13-12 Cal League special at Visalia. Travis Witherspoon, Tyler Smith and Jabari Henry each homered in the win. Witherspoon went 4-fro-6 with three runs scored, a homer and two stolen bases. High Desert hat 18 hits in the game.

  • From the report:  Jabari Henry has recorded 5 multi-hit games in his last 9 starts, batting .432 (16×37) with 7 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 home runs, 11 RBI and 4 walks. Since June 11, Henry has hit safely in 19 of his last 22 games with 11 multi-hit efforts, batting .389 (35×90) with 20 runs scored, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 22 RBI and 11 walks.

Class A Clinton

The LumberKings managed three runs on four hits in a 4-3 loss to the Peoria Chiefs. Catcher Christian Carmichael had three hits, including a triple and a stolen base.

Short A Everett

Austin Cousino went 2-for-4 with a double and his third homer of the season, while driving in three runs in the Aqua Sox’s 9-4 win over Vancouver. Taylor Smart and Wilton Martinez had two hits each.

  • From the report:  Cousino has hit safely in 5 straight games, batting .286 (6×21) with 4 runs scored, 1 double, 2 home runs, 2 walks and 4 stolen bases. SS Jordan Cowan has hit safely in his last 7 games, batting .407 (11×27) with 3 runs scored, 1 double, RBI, 1 walk and 1 stolen base. He has also hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, batting .317 (13×41) with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 2 walks

Rookie League Pulaski

The Mariners lost 4-2 to Danville. Starter Pat Peterson threw five shutout inning, allowing two hits while striking out six and walking one.

AZL Mariners

The youngsters had a day off.

  • From the report: : OF Alex Jackson has hit safely in 9 of his first 11 career games with 4 multi-hit efforts, batting .326 (14×43) with 7 runs scored, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 9 RBI and 5 walks. OF Luis Liberato went 0-for-3 last night snapping his hitting streak at 8 games. During the streak he hit .278 (10×36) with 5 runs scored, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 walks and 3 stolen bases.
