Mariners minor league report, July 11 — Rainiers roll to 18 runs in windy SLC

Class AAA Tacoma

The wind was blowing out to left field about 30 mph and fly balls turned into homers and extra base hits in Salt Lake City. The Rainiers rolled 18-2 with position players from each team taking turns on the mound.  Ty Kelly and Jesus Montero had five hits each. Per a scout, Montero is making a meal of mediocre lefty pitchers during his recent hot stretch.

Class AA Jackson

The Generals lost 7-4 to Birmingham. Starter Trevor Miller pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Dan Paolini hit a two-run homer in the loss.

  • From the report: Paolini has hit safely in all 8 games he has appeared in July, batting .464 (13×28) with 6 runs scored, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI and 2 walks. OF Leon Landry has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, batting .328 (19×58) with 8 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 RBI and 5 stolen bases. Since June 7, Landry has hit safely in 24 of his last 27 games with 14 multi-hit efforts, batting  .361 (39×108) with 18 runs scored, 6 doubles, 3 triples, 6 RBI, 3 walks and 10 stolen bases. During this 27 game stretch he has raised his  season average from .236 to .286.

Class A High Desert

The Mavericks lost 3-2 on a walk off hit from Visalia. Burt Reynolds  had two hits in the loss.

From the report: Jabari Henry has recorded 5 multi-hit games in his last 10 starts, batting .400 (16×40) with 7 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 home runs, 11 RBI and 5 walks. Since June 11, Henry has hit safely in 19 of his last 23 games with 11 multi-hit efforts, batting .376 (35×93) with 20 runs scored, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 22 RBI and 12 walks. 

Class A Clinton

The LumberKings lost 5-3. Lonnie Kauppila had three hits and Martin Peguero added two and two RBI in the defeat.

From the report: INF Lonnie Kauppila has recorded a hit in 4 of his last 5 games, batting .500 (9×18) with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles and 1 walk. vINF Martin Peguero currently has a 6-game hit streak, batting .381 (8×21) with 1 run scored, 4 doubles, 4 RBI, 1 walk and 1 stolen base.

Short A Everett

The Aqua Sox lost 10-1, getting just three hits.

Rookie League Pulaski

The Mariners lost 7-6 to Danville.  Starter Taylor Byrd pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up six runs (four earned ) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Rookie League Arizona

Gareth Morgan and Lachlan Fontaine each tripled in a 8-4 loss. Alex Jackson went 1-for-5.
