Mariners minor league report, July 21 — Chris Taylor goes 4-for-4 for Tacoma

Class AAA Tacoma

The Rainiers lost 7-4 in seven innings on Sunday in Reno. Chris Taylor went 4-for-4 and Jesus Montero had two hits in the loss. Here’s video of Taylor’s fourth hit - a bunt single. 

  • From the report:  Montero currently has a 6-game hit streak, batting .500 (12×24) with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 11 RBI and 2 walks. He has also hit safely in 13 of 15 games (w/AB) in July, batting .462 (30×65) with 13 runs scored, 7 doubles, 5 home runs, 24 RBI and 3 walks. During this 15 game stretch, he has raised his season average from .267 to .310. SS Chris Taylor is batting .692 (9×13) with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles and 1 RBI over his current 3-game hitting streak.

Class AA Jackson

The Generals lost on a walk-off homer to the Montgomery Biscuits. Leon Landry and Ketel Marte each homered. Starter Tyler Pike struggled, pitching just 3 2/3 innings and giving up six runs on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts and two home runs allowed.

  • From the report Leon Landry currently has a 12-game hit streak, batting .304 (17×56) with 11 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 home run, 4 RBI 1 walk and 6 stolen bases. SS Ketel Marte has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 game with 5 multi-hit efforts, batting .340 (16×47) with 7 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 triple, 1 home run, 7 RBI, 1 walk and 3 stolen bases. 3B D.J. Peterson has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games with 7 multi-hit contests, batting .373 (19×51) with 11 runs scored, 3 doubles, 4 home runs, 5 walks and 1 stolen base. Peterson has recorded at least 1 hit in 18 of 20 games with Jackson, batting .313 (26×83) with 12 runs scored, 5 doubles, 4 home runs, 11 RBI, 7 walks and 1 stolen base. INF Patrick Kivlehan has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .421 (16×38) with 9 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 11 RBI and 3 walks. 

Class A High Desert

The Mavs lost 12-11 to Visalia in a Cal League special that featured 28 hits and three errors. Jordy Lara homered and drove in four  runs. Tyler Smith, Jabari Henry and Tim Lopes had two hits each.

  • From the report: Lara currently has a 12-game hit streak, batting .469 (23×49) with 14 runs scored, 4 doubles, 4 home runs, 15 RBI and 4 walks. Lara has also hit safely in 19 of his last 21 games, batting .429 (36×84) with 20 runs scored, 7 doubles, 6 home runs, 20 RBI, 8 walks and 1 stolen base. OF Jabari Henry extended his hitting streak to 7 games, batting .448 (13×29) with 9 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 13 RBI and 4 walks. He has also hit safely 15 of his last 19 games with 10 multi-hit efforts, batting .403 (31×77) with 16 runs scored, 9 doubles, 6 home runs, 24 RBI and 10 walks.

Class A Clinton

The Lumberkings gave up the lead in ninth and lost in the 10th, 4-3, to the Lansing Lugnuts

  • Of note: RHP Edwin Diaz was named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week, July 14-20. Diaz recorded the win in Clinton’s 5-0 win over Greak Lakes on July 17. He limited the Loons to only 3 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 8 in 6.0 shutout innings.

Short A Everett

Corey Simpson hit a two-out, two-run homer to lead the Aqua Sox to a 3-2 win over Spokane. Starter Luis Gohara worked six innings, giving up one run on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

  • From the report: RH Kody Kerski has not allowed a hit over his last 4.2 innings scoreless innings in relief. During this 4-game stretch he has walked 3 batters and struck out 4. Overall this season he is 2-1 with 1 save and a 1.86 ERA (4 ER, 19.1 IP) in 12 games. He has limited opponents to a .203 (15×74) average, while walking 10 and striking out 24.

Rookie League Pulaski

A sac bunt and error helped the Mariners to a 5-4 walk-off win.  Estarlyn Morales went 3-for-3 with a triple and RBI.

Rookie League Arizona

The youngsters had a day off.

  • From the report OF Alex Jackson has hit safely in 14 of his first 19 professional games with 7 multi-hit games, batting .293 (22×75) with 11 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 15 RBI and 6 walks.
