Robinson Cano ended Bartolo Colon’s bid for a perfect game with two outs in the seventh inning with a sharp single to left field.
Colon, who is 41, had otherwise baffled the Mariners all day. He retired the first 20 batters he faced, and he promptly retired Kyle Seager after Cano’s single. If Colon had gotten by Cano and Seager, the Mariners’ two most productive hitters, his chances of throwing a perfect game, or no-hitter for that matter, would have increased facing the bottom part of the Mariners’ order.
