Mariners minor league report, July 24 — D.J. Peterson homers for Class AA Jackson (video)

Class AAA Tacoma

The Rainiers picked up a 6-4 win over Las Vegas. Gabe Noriega had a big two run double in the win. All the candidates for possible promotion for the next  six games – Jesus Montero, Nick Franklin, Chris Taylor, all played.

  • From the report:  Jesus Montero (went 0-for-4 with 2 Ks on Wednesday)  has hit safely in 15 of 19 games (w/AB) in July, batting .436 (34×78) with 16 runs scored, 8 doubles, 7 home runs, 29 RBI and 4 walks. His 29 RBI in July currently lead all minor league players. SS Chris Taylor is batting .500 (14×28) with 4 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base over his current 7-game hitting streak.

Class AA Jackson

The Generals rolled to an 8-3 win over Huntsville with DJ Peterson hitting his fifth homer since joining the team .  Dario Pizzano, Patrick Kivlehan and Julio Morban added two hits each.

  • From the report:  D.J. Peterson has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games with 8 multi-hit contests, batting .361 (22×61) with 13 runs scored, 3 doubles, 5 home runs, 6 walks and 1 stolen base. Peterson has recorded at least 1 hit in 20 of 23 games with Jackson, batting .312 (29×93) with 14 runs scored, 5 doubles, 5 home runs, 15 RBI, 8 walks and 1 stolen base. Peterson leads all Mariners farmhands with 23 home runs. INF Patrick Kivlehan currently has a 7-game hit streak, batting .433 (13×30) with 6 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run, 10 RBI and 1 walk. He has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, batting .420 (21×50) with 12 runs scored, 5 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs, 15 RBI and 3 walks. 
Class A High Desert

The Mavs had an off day. In talking with Chris Gwynn the other day, he mentioned the progress of Jordy Lara and Jabari Henry, both of whom, battled injuries last season. The numbers are showing that progress

  • From the report: 1B Jordy Lara currently has a 14-game hit streak, batting .466 (27×58) with 16 runs scored, 5 doubles, 6 home runs, 17 RBI and 4 walks. Lara has also hit safely in 21 of his last 23 games, batting .430 (40×93) with 22 runs scored, 8 doubles, 8 home runs, 22 RBI, 8 walks and 1 stolen base. OF Jabari Henry has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games, batting .378 (14×37) with 10 runs scored, 4 doubles, 4 home runs, 14 RBI and 5 walks. He has also hit safely 16 of his last 21 games with 10 multi-hit efforts, batting .376 (32×85) with 17 runs scored, 9 doubles, 7 home runs, 25 RBI and 11 walks. 

Class A Clinton

Chantz Mack hit a two-run homer and Marcus Littlewood had a two-run single to lead the LumberKings to a 4-2 win. Starter Eddie Campbell pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

  • From the Report: Mack has hit safely in 13 of his last 16 games with 5 multi-hit contests. Since July 4, he is batting .345 (20×58) with 9 runs scored, 1 double, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 9 RBI, 7 walks and 4 stolen bases 

Short A Everett

The Aqua Sox were rained out.

  • From the report:  RH Kody Kerski has not allowed a hit over his last 4.2 innings scoreless innings in relief. During this 4-game stretch he has walked 3 batters and struck out 4. Overall this season he is 2-1 with 1 save and a 1.86 ERA (4 ER, 19.1 IP) in 12 games. He has limited opponents to a .203 (15×74) average, while walking 10 and striking out 24

Rookie League Pulaski

Estarlyn Morales hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to help the Mariners to a 3-2 win.

  • From the report: Carlton Tanabe has hit safely in 15 of 17 games he has appeared in July, batting .406 (26×64) with 11 runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 14 RBI, 7 walks and 1 stole base. OF Estarlyn Morales currently has a 9-game hit streak, batting .457 (16×35) with 7 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, 9 RBI, 6 walks and 3 stolen bases

Rookie League Arizona

Last night’s game was suspended in the 4th inning because of lightning.
