Mariners minor league report, July 30

Here is today’s Mariners’ minor league round-up, which offers the team’s official minor league report from Kelly Munro that features, notes, stats and box scores. There are also game results on all of the organization’s minor league affiliates that were in action.

Class AAA Tacoma

Taijuan Walker gave up three homers in a 5-3 loss in hitter friendly Salt Lake City. Justin Smoak homered in the loss.

  • From the report:  OF Xavier Avery is batting .471 (8×17) with 3 runs scored, 1 double, 2 walks and 2 stolen bases in his last 5 games. C John Hicks has hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games since July 5, batting .333 (13×39) with 6 runs scored, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 2 walks and 2 stolen bases. RH Forrest Snow has allowed only 5 earned runs over 29.2 innings with Tacoma this season. Overall he is 1-2 with a 1.52 ERA (5 ER, 29.2 IP) in 10 games/4 starts. Snow has limited opponents to a .209 (23×110) average, while walking 8 and striking out 32.

Class AA Jackson

The Generals lost 2-1 to Mobile on Tuesday night. Leon Landry had two hits and Patrick Kivlehan added a double. Victor Sanchez pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up one run on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

  • From the report: Patrick Kivlehan has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, batting .373 (19×51) with 7 runs scored, 6 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run, 11 RBI and 5 walks. He also has hit safely in 17 of his last 19 games, batting .380 (27×71) with 13 runs scored, 7 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs, 16 RBI and 7 walks. Starter Victor Sanchez is 2-0 with a 2.02 ERA (8 ER, 35.2 IP) in 6 starts in July. During this stretch he has limited opponents to a .198 (25×126) average, while walking 9 and striking out 28.

Class A High Desert

The Mavs committed four errors that led to eight unearned runs in a 13-5 loss. Tyler Marlette had three hits and Jabari Henry drove in two runs in the loss.

  • From the report:  SS Tyler Smith has hit safely in 4 of his last 5 games with 4 multi-hit efforts, batting .364 (8×22) with 3 runs scored, 1 triple, 3 RBI and 1 walk. Since July 13, Smith has hit safely in 12 of 15 games, batting .361 (22×61) with 14 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home runs, 7 RBI and 6 walks.

Class A Clinton

The LumberKings lost 7-5 to the Quad Cities. Chantz Mack and Justin Seager combined for five hits and and three RBI in the loss.

  • From the report:  OF Aaron Barbosa has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games, batting .365 (19×52) with 11 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 RBI, 11 walks and 10 stolen bases. Since June 26, RH Rafael Pineda is 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA (3 ER, 19.0 IP) in 11 relief appearances with Clinton. During this stretch he has walked only 3 batters, while striking out 12. RH Seon Gi Kim has allowed only 1 earned run (2 R) over his last 17.1 innings in relief. During this 5 game stretch he is 0-0 with a 0.52 ERA, while walking 2 and striking out 13. RH Kevin McCoyhas not allowed a run in his last 6.0 innings over 3 relief appearances. During this stretch he has allowed only 3 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8.

Short A Everett

The Aqua Sox picked up a 7-5 win with six players driving in a run. James Alfonso homered and Austin Cousino had two hits.

  • From the report:  RH Kody Kerski has not allowed a hit over his last 9.2 innings scoreless innings in relief. During this 7-game stretch he has walked 3 batters and struck out 10. Overall this season he is 3-1 with 2 saves and a 1.48 ERA (4 ER, 24.1 IP) in 15 games. He has limited opponents to a .180 (16×89) average, while walking 10 and striking out 30

Rookie League Pulaski

The Mariners picked up a 3-2 win in 10 innings over Burlington

Rookie League Arizona

The Mariners defeated the Rangers 7-2. Austin Wilson, who is rehabbing in Arizona, hit an inside the park homer run. Catcher Johan Quevado drove in four runs.
