Mariners minor league report, August 6

Here is today’s Mariners’ minor league round-up, which offers the team’s official minor league report from Kelly Munro that features, notes, stats and box scores. There are also game results on all of the organization’s minor league affiliates that were in action.


Class AAA Tacoma

James Jones hit a ninth inning RBI triple to score the go-ahead run in a 7-5 win over Albuquerque on Monday.  Stefen Romero got a start at second base. Not sure how much I would read into this. The Rainiers are off today and return to Cheney Stadium tomorrow night.

  • From the report: : INF Leury Bonilla is batting .407 (11×27) with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 6 RBI, 2 walks and 1 stolen base in his last 8games. C Humberto Quintero has hit safely in 16 of 20 games he has appeared since July 3, batting .382 (26×68) with 8 runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 home run, 6 RBI and 1 walk. Since June 13, Quintero is batting .343 (36×105) with 14 runs scored, 8 doubles, 2 home runs, 11
    RBI and 1 walk in 28 games. C John Hicks has hit safely in 11 of 13 games since being promoted to Tacoma, batting .327 (16×49) with 7runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 7 RBI, 1 walk and 1 stolen base.

Class AA Jackson

The Generals had a rare off day.

  • From the reportAfter recording 1 hit in his first 14 AA at-bats (.071), OF Jordy Lara his hit safely in each of his last 4 games, batting .571 (8×14) with 3 runs scored, 3 doubles, 3 RBI and 1 walk. Overall Lara is batting .321 (9×28) with 4 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 RBI and 4 walks in 8 games with Jackson. Since May 16, OF Leon Landry has hit safely in 55 of 65 games, batting .332 (86×259) with 42 runs scored, 17 doubles, 6 triples, 1 home run, 20 RBI, 10 walks and 18 stolen bases. During this 65-game stretch he has raised his season average from .155 to .282. INF Patrick Kivlehan has hit safely in 16 of his last 19 games, batting .368 (25×68) with 13 runs scored, 6 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs, 15 RBI and 12 walks. He also has hit safely in 21 of his last 25 games (since 7/8), batting .375 (33×88) with 19 runs scored, 7 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs, 20 RBI and 14 walks. Since July 1,

Class A High Desert

Burt Reynolds came up with a walk-off single to lead the Mavericks to a 5-4 win over Rancho Cucamonga.

  • From the report: : C Tyler Marlette is batting .364 (16×44) with 7 runs scored, 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 10 RBI and 2 walks over his last 11games. Since June 8, Marlette is batting .343 (49×143) with 21 runs scored, 12 doubles, 6 home runs, 22 RBI, 9 walks and 5 stolen bases over 35 games. During this stretch he has raised his average from .261 to .301. INF Tyler Smith has recorded 10 multi-hit games over his last 22 games, batting .346 (28×81) with 19 runs scored, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 9 RBI and 9 walks.

Class A Clinton

Tyler O’Neill hit a pair of homers including a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 14th inning to lead the LumberKings to a 5-3 win over Beloit. A day after coming off a three-month stint on the disabled list, the 19-year-old O’Neill had a monster game.

  • From the reportMarcus Littlewood currently has a 12-game hit streak, batting .356 (16×45) with 8 runs scored, 1 double, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 9 RBI and 9 walks. OF Chantz Mack is batting .405 (15×37) with 8 runs scored, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 12 RBI and 3 walks during his current 8-game hit streak.

Short A Everett

The Northwest League All-Star game ended in a 0-0 tie in 10 innings.

Rookie League Pulaski

The Mariners completed a sweep over Kingston, hanging on  for a 6-5 win. Daniel Missaki improved to 4-1, pitching innings and allowing one run on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Gianfranco Wawoe had two hits for Pulaski.

  • From the reportOF Estarlyn Morales has hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games, batting .417 (30×72) with 18 runs scored, 7 doubles, 2 triples, 4home runs, 17 RBI, 10 walks and 6 stolen bases. RH Trey Cochran-Gill has allowed only 1 earned run in 24.0 innings in 17 relief appearances, including 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings to begin his career. Overall 3-0 with 8 saves, while limited opponents to a .153 (13×84) average with 2 walks and 30 strikeouts

Rookie League Arizona

Catcher Johan Quevedo drove in two runs in the Mariners’ 5-3 win over the Brewers.

  • From the report: INF Erick Mejia currently has a 5-game hit streak, batting .444 (8×18) with 6 runs scored, 3 triples, 1 home run, 2 RBI, 1 walk and 2 stolen bases. RH Ronald Dominguez is 2-1 with 1 save and a 0.63 ERA (2 ER, 28.2 IP) in 12 relief appearances. Overall he has limited opponents to a .168 (16×95) average, while walking 7 and striking out 28. LH Nick Kiel is 3-0 with 3 saves and a 1.42 ERA (3 ER, 19.0 IP) over 12 relief appearances this season.
