Pregame notes and lineups: Mariners at Tigers

Sorry for the late blog post. Lineups came up right before we met with Lloyd McClendon.

A few quick notes:

Michael Saunders will return to the Rainiers tonight to continue his rehab stint after being out for paternity leave. The Rainiers are in New Orleans tonight with Taijuan Walker on the mound.
“He’ll play tonight and he’ll play the next two or three nights and then we’ll re-evaluate and see where we is,” McClendon said.

McClendon on James Paxton tonight.

“He’s starting to find his groove a little bit,” McClendon said. “He’s throwing the ball extremely well right now. I’d be surprised if he didn’t have a good game tonight and give us an opportunity to win the ball game.”

Here’s the pitching probables …

Obviously, the Saturday matchup between Felix Hernandez and David Price is what people are talking about.

“Rightfully so,” McClendon said. “You have two marquee guys toeing the rubber tomorrow. We’ll see. Sometimes those work out the way they are planned to and other times they don’t. So we’ll see.”

Hernandez didn’t have much to say about it. He admitted that he rarely checks the  pitching probables too far in advance or focuses on who is pitching for the other team.

“Not really,” he said. “I don’t focus on that stuff.”

Usually he finds out who will be pitching for the other team the day before or day of. Of course, he knew about the matchup with Price because it’s a been a hot topic on MLB Network and social media.

But he just kind of shrugged it off.

I’m not going to be pitching to Price,” he said. “I’m pitching against the Tigers.”

This will be the first time the two aces have taken the hill in the same game.

Here’s a look at their numbers

Lineup notes

Pretty standard lineup to face right-hander Rick Porcello.

Porcello’s splits this season are actually reversed in a few categories. He’s been very solid this season.

His career splits are little more dramatic.

The Mariners don’t have a ton of at-bats off of Porcello. But here’s their numbers against him.
