Update 12:53 p.m. Tony Romo time

Dustin Ackley received treatment on his sore left ankle early this morning. He was optimistic that he would be back in the lineup tomorrow against the Astros and starter Brad Peacock on Monday at Safeco Field.

“I think it’s just something that might take a day to get back going,” he said. “It already feels better than it did last night. I’m hoping to give it today and tomorrow I will be ready to roll.”

McClendon also has the same expectation.

“Our hope is to have him back in there tomorrow,” he said.

So what happened with the ankle?

“It just stiffened up to the point where it couldn’t get lose again,” Ackley said. “I couldn’t really run or at least run like I was capable of. At that, point, I felt like it was a good idea to get off of it.”

There wasn’t any one play that led to the problem. Ackley called it a progression from running, stopping and even the sliding catch in left field.

If all goes well today in Arizona, Michael Saunders will rejoin the team tomorrow in Seattle and be activated from the disabled list. Saunders was at the spring training complex working out and trying to regain his strength after dealing with the effects of Fifths Disease for about a week and losing 12 pounds.

From earlier

Good morning!!!!

It feels like we never left! Who is ready for some baseball! Heading to the park today, the entire area was filled with nothing but Cowboys and Niners fans, throw in a free Pitbull concert, and I’d be in the seventh circle of hell.

As expected, Dustin Ackley is out of the lineup, after dealing with a jammed ankle. But it’s not surprising with left Derek Holland starting for the Rangers. Only two left-handed hitters are getting the start today for the Mariners. This will be Holland’s second start of the season. He missed most of the season with back and knee issues.

Righties do have an advantage against him …
