Roster move: Jesus Montero activated from suspended list, Corey Hart DFA’d

The Mariners made a minor roster move today, activating Jesus Montero from the suspended list and returning him to the 40-man roster. To make room, the club designated Corey Hart for assignment.

The organization had to reinstate Montero from the suspended list an with the season now over. He was placed there after getting into an altercation with Mariners’ national crosschecker Butch Baccala in the stands at a Class A game in Boise. The dispute started over an ice cream sandwich that Baccala had delivered to Class A Everett’s dugout. Montero was with the Aqua Sox for a rehab assignment.

The move to designate Hart is basically a paper move since he was going to a free agent next season. The Mariners signed him to a one-year, incentive-laden deal in hopes that he could provide some pop to the lineup. He did not.

He hit .203 with six homers and 31 RBI in just 68 games. He missed significant time with two separate DL stints.
