Seattle Mariners’ contract statuses for 2015

So as we head into the offseason, it’s always important to know what the contract statuses are for players on the Mariners. Because those things affect offseason decisions.

Quick note: In my story in the paper the other day, I mentioned that Michael Saunders was third-year arbitration eligible and likely to make $4.5 million. That was wrong. Saunders missed Super 2 status by a day a few years ago, he’s only second-year arbitration eligible. And because he played in less than half of the games this season, he probably won’t get a huge bump pay-wise from the $2.3 million he made this season. He might not go over $3 million.

Hisashi Iwakuma has a club option for next season that GM Jack Zduriencik confirmed they will pick up, calling it a “no brainer.”

Justin Smoak has a club option for 2015. The Mariners will have to pay $150,000 buyout if they choose to move on. It’s almost a guarantee that will happen and the Mariners won’t tender him a contract for 2015.

Both Smoak and Erasmo Ramirez are out of options. So they would have to make the 25-man roster out of spring or else be DFA’d

With the help of the Mariners and Cot’s contract. Here’s a reference guide that I will update as the offseason goes on.
