Mariners claim left-handed pitcher Edgar Olmos off waivers

The Mariners made a minor roster move today, claiming left-handed pitcher Edward Olmos off of waivers.

No, not Edward Olmos from Miami Vice

Olmos, 24, went 3-3 with 3 saves and a 4.06 ERA in a career-high 51 relief appearances combined between Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A New Orleans.  He limited opponents to a .248 (71×286) average, while walking 30 and striking out 60 on 77.2 innings.  Olmos recently wrapped up his winter league assignment, going 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA (9 ER, 11.0 IP) in 9 games with the Salt Rivers Rafters in the Arizona Fall League.

Olmos made his Major League debut with the Marlins on June 3, 2013 at Philadelphia, allowing only 1 hit in 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Over 5 appearances with Miami that season, he went 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA (4 ER, 5.0 IP). He was originally selected by the Marlins in the 3rd round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Birmingham High School in Los Angeles, California.  He currently owns a 15-37 record with a 4.50 ERA (245 ER, 489.2 IP) in 179 games, 71 career starts over 7 seasons in the minor leagues.
