Monday’s Mariners notes and links — minor league coaching staffs announced, Cano plays Tuesday

You may have seen some of the minor league affiliates tweet out the news of their respective staffs earlier today. But here’s the full list of Mariners’ minor league coaching staffs and instructors.

A few quick notes: Not sure of Dave Valle’s status within the organization. He managed Class A Everett last season, while still trying to also maintain his responsibilities with MLB Network. He’s still affiliated with the Mariners. He’s been going on the Mariners’ Caravan trips. But perhaps the life of minor league managing might not be what he wanted. I’m trying to get a hold of him.

The Mariners won’t have a team in the Appalachian League, ending their affiliation with Pulaski.

Cano to play Tuesday

Robinson Cano will make his Dominican Winter League debut on Tuesday according to the team website (in Spanish) for Estrellas de Orientes. Cano is expected to play the remaining five games left on the team’s schedule and any postseason games if it qualities. I’ve been told he will likely only DH in the games.

Kudos to the Mariners pitching staff

On his blog today, Buster Olney lists the Mariners’ starting rotation as the fourth best in all of baseball behind the Nationals, Dodgers and Cardinals. So that means he views it as the best rotation in the American League.

Other stuff

If you aren’t into football (I don’t know why you wouldn’t), Mariners Monday’s is on ROOT with the sweep in Boston.

The Brooklyn Daily had this story on James Jones

Here’s a story on M’s slugging prospect Tyler O’Neill and his regrettable decision to punch a dugout wall this season. Did the same thing in college, but didn’t break my hand quite as badly. He is not a small human.

Here’s a bunch of reaction to the Ben Zobrist trade from MLB Trade Rumors. Obviously a lot of people hoped the Mariners would acquire Zobrist, but Seattle simple wasn’t going to give up Taijuan Walker or DJ Peterson for one year of Zobrist. The A’s were willing to give up Daniel Robertson one of their top prospects and John Jaso and another prospect for Zobrist and Yunel Escobar. It seems like both teams got what they wanted it.

The Mariners are hiring for  seasonal employees if you are looking to pick up some extra $$$
