Saturday’s pregame notes and lineups: Mariners at Astros

*** So Lloyd McCledon was asked about the lineup. Some really handsome baseball writer with Montana ties, grunted out a question that was basically …. “Ackley two homers last night, um, you know lineup stuff.” McClendon, who was in a good mood having watched KC lose moments before, smiled and said: “Ah, #$%^ write whatever the #%^*…

Game thread: Mariners at Astros — September 19, 2014

Greetings from an air conditioned Minute Maid Park …. It’s rainy and muggy here in Houston and the roof is closed, like it is most nights. And that’s not a bad thing. The Mariners open a three-game series here against the Astros tonight. Taijuan Walker gets the start for Seattle, while Brad Peacock will go for…

Friday’s pregame notes and lineups: Mariners at Astros

Updated 5:08 p.m.  Manager Lloyd McClendon was asked about pulling Felix Hernandez yesterday after 97 pitches. Pregame notes and lineups – Mariners vs. the … ahem … Angels

*** **** As was mentioned a couple times yesterday, the Mariner have changed up their rotation for the Houston series with Taijuan Walker starting on Friday. “It pushes (Iwakuma and Walker) and keeps them fresh,” manager Lloyd McClendon said. “They need it. They all need it.” It also works best for Walker, whose last appearance was on…

Game thread: Mariners at Angels — September 17, 2014

Once upon a time, the Mariners won a game 13-2 over the Angels and all was right in Fanland. The win placed them within one game of the second wild card of the Kansas City Royals. The sun was shining ( a little too much here in Anaheim), the birds were chirping, optimism could be…

Wednesday’s pregame notes and lineups: Mariners at Angels

**** Update 4:05 p.m.  Roenis Elias’ season is done. Manager Lloyd McClendon said the rookie left-hander probably won’t pitch again this season. And there really is no reason to take that risk. Elias left last night’s game with pain in his left elbow in the fifth inning. Team medical staff are calling it a flexor bundle strain….
