Ultimate fan cave: Make your pad the place to be for Seahawks season

By Sara Kennedy / Sunday Market

It’s almost time. Contracts have been signed, preseason games have begun and the Seahawks’ home opener is less than four weeks away.

Now all that’s left to do is get your fan cave in shape to host all the way through the playoffs. Here are some Seahawks-inspired items to help you build the ultimate 12th Man hangout.

Pregame, halftime, postgame analysis: Game day can draw out for hours. Make sure you have a place for everyone to sit and plenty of ways to get cozy.

The NFL Seattle Seahawks Bar Height Director Chair ($170 at can be used for extra seating or to dress up a basement bar. It features the Seahawks name and logo on heavy duck-cloth fabric.

For something a little cushier, add the Ikea Stockholm Swivel Easy Chair ($399) in Sandbacka Green to the room. Place it in front of a blue accent wall for a classy show of support.

Add pops of the Seahawks’ “Action Green” around the room with CB2 Basis Bright Green Pillows ($25 each at; includes insert). A soft weave adds texture to the 18-by-12-inch pillows, making them just right for clutching in the last seconds of a close game.

As the season moves from fall into winter, your guests will appreciate the Kennebunk Home Ombré Throw (on sale for $33 at Nordstrom). The soft, oversized throw will coordinate with your team gear, as it fades from the Seahawks’ “Pacific Blue” to lighter hues.

DIYers can stretch a few yards of Seattle Seahawks NFL Cotton Fabric ($11 a yard at Jo-Ann Stores) into a host of projects, such as pillow covers, table runners or fabric pompons. It features a repeating pattern of helmets and the team name.

Really want to commit to your cave? Take the room to the next level with Seahawks-themed decorations.

Feel like you’re at the game, even at home, with the Seattle Seahawks 13.5” x 40” Endzone Panoramic Print ($30 at The Pro Shop). The photo is taken from the end zone of a packed stadium with the city skyline in back.

Set out some reminders of last season’s Super Bowl victory to keep the celebration going. Update your old banner with the Wincraft Seattle Seahawks NFL 27″ X 37″ Banner Flag ($18 at, which declares the team Super Bowl XLVIII Champions.

Adorn your coffee table with “Hawk Heaven: The Road to the Seahawks’ First Super Bowl Victory” (on sale for $10.50–$17.50 at, by The Seattle Times’ sports staff, and have the scores and stats from each of last season’s games at your fingertips.

Celebrate your favorite players in big and small ways. The Russell Wilson Seattle Seahawks Newspaper Base Bobblehead Figurine ($30 at The Pro Shop) puts a little QB power on your side table, while the Fathead Richard Sherman REAL.BIG. Wall Graphics ($100 at fathead
.com) add a huge dose of the outspoken cornerback to your walls. The set includes removable wall stickers of Sherman, along with the Seahawks logos, a helmet and more. Other versions feature most of the top players if Sherman — for some reason — isn’t your favorite.

After you finish sewing your team pillow covers, continue getting crafty with Seattle Seahawks Duct Tape ($6.67 at Cover raw-wood picture frames, make wallets and more with the sturdy stuff.

No football party is complete without plenty to eat and drink. Bring some stadium food home with a round of Uli’s Famous Sausage German Bratwurst  ($7.50 a pound at Uli’s, downtown). Pair it with beer from Elysian Brewing, located across the street from the stadium. The Mens Room Original Red ($9 for a six-pack at grocery stores) isn’t just for the guys.

Load up a Seattle Seahawks Snack Helmet ($50 at Bed Bath & Beyond) with Skittles for post-touchdown celebrations. Get packs of Wild Berry or Tropical, and tell the kids they can keep any color but blue or green if they sort them for you.

Serve snacks with Seattle Seahawks Lunch Plates ($4.49 for 18) and Napkins ($5 for 36, both at Party City). And add some flair to kids’ drinks with Party Partners Sip-Sip Hooray Paper Straws ($5) in lime and aqua, or Super Tall Striped Paper Straws ($6) in aqua/green.

For the grown-ups, invest in Pottery Barn’s NFL Glassware ($18–$24). The line includes mugs, pints and pilsner glasses, and each comes with free monogramming so the crew can keep track of whose is whose.
