Locavore: Bite into popcorn’s crunchy kin

By Bree Coven Brown / Special to Sunday Market

halfpops_450_0921Good things come in small packages.

More proof of this: Halfpops, a clever and tasty snack invented in Medina.

Halfpops are half-popped corn kernels that have a satisfying crunch and full flavor. They’re all natural and gluten-free, nut-free and GMO-free.

The snack idea was cooked up by Mike Fitzgerald, a retired race-car driver, in his Medina kitchen. The company is headquartered in Bellevue.

Two flavors are currently available — Butter & Pure Ocean Sea Salt and Aged White Cheddar — with two more due out this fall — Chipotle Barbecue and Caramel & Sea Salt.

$3.33–$4.29 for a 6-ounce bag at QFC and PCC Natural Markets
