Kids’ shop: Stuffed animals let kids create species

By Bree Coven Brown / Special to Sunday Market

chimeras_400_0308What do you get when you cross a bat and an elephant? How about a bunny and a monkey? A panda and a giraffe?

You get Chimeras, mix-and-match plush toys from Walrus Toys, a small design firm in Portland.

The word chimeras refers to an organism made of two or more species, and that’s what these stuffies allow kids to create. Each set of two animals comes with interchangeable ears, arms and legs, so children can take them apart and reassemble them to make their own wacky and wonderful creations.

$40 for a two-species set at walrustoys.com
