With summer travel season looming, it’s time to stock up on stylish gear that makes a splash.

Whether you’re packing up the car for a weekend trip or heading to the airport for a longer getaway, these pieces will ensure you’ve got all the basics, plus some fun and chic extras.

Stay organized

As the foundation of your travel gear, your luggage should be functional and make a statement. For weekends away, the Lo & Sons Catalina Canvas Weekender ($120 at loandsons.com) sports a neutral color palette to pair with any outfit or accessory. It’s surprisingly roomy, with a bottom pocket that’s perfect for shoes, extra toiletries or dirty clothes.

Street Level’s Reversible Vegan Leather Tote & Wristlet ($48 at Nordstrom) works as a versatile carry-on with its spacious yet compact design. It reverses to create new looks and includes a handy wristlet to contain small items.

For trips where a roller bag is a necessity, check out the Orla Kiely Roller Leaf ($180 at Target), which has a bight, cheerful print that makes it easy to spot at the baggage claim.

The Bric’s Bellagio Rolling Trunk ($595 at Nordstrom) harkens back to the days when steamer trunks were a travel standby. Pair it with an eye-catching luggage tag, such as the Kate Spade New York Off We Go Luggage Tag ($14 at katespade.com).

Inside, use the Eagle Creek Travel Gear Pack-It Specter Set ($38 for three at amazon.com) and Kate Spade New York Bits & Baubles Jewelry Bag ($14) to keep your suitcase organized.

Be prepared

Pair the Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Slim Tech Wristlet ($98 at zappos.com) with the J.Crew Printed Passport Case (on sale for $30) to ensure you have all your important documents in one easy-to-access place.

For a long car ride or flight, pack the Pinch Provisions Ribbon Minimergency Kit ($18 at Nordstrom), which includes helpful items such as earring backs, hair spray, double-sided tape, floss and more.

Keep yourself entertained with a good set of headphones, such as Frends’ With Benefits Taylor Headphones ($200), and the Mophie Juice Pack Air Charging Case ($100, both at Nordstrom), a chic back-up charger.

Invest in the über-functional Humangear GoToob Travel Bottles ($18 for three 2-ounce bottles at amazon.com), which are easy to squeeze and suction to showers and tubs. A toiletry bag that hangs, such as the Baggu Large 3D Zip Travel Bag ($12 at Nordstrom), helps free up counter space in tiny hotel bathrooms.

Comfort is key

When packing your travel wardrobe, opt for easy pieces that are versatile and layer well. The Halogen Infinity Scarf ($29 at Nordstrom), Sunday in Brooklyn Temesa Cardigan ($88 at Anthropologie) and Loft Cotton Linen Anorak ($128), mix and match with basics, and will keep you warm if temperatures dip.

Drapey pants, such as Old Navy’s Belted High-Rise Soft Pants ($22–$33), and dresses, such as Loft’s Ooh La La Shirtdress (on sale for $75), can be dressed up or down as needed.

H&M’s Straw Hat ($8) or a fabulous pair of shades — try Loft’s Round Tortoiseshell Sunglasses (on sale for $20) — add instant glamour to a look without a lot of fuss.

And don’t forget about a great pair of comfortable flats. The Ballerina Pink Tieks ($175 at tieks.com) and Soludos Classic Woven Sandals ($48 at zappos.com) are both stylish options.
