Microsoft names insider as new interactive entertainment marketing chief

Twelve days after announcing the departure of Jeff Bell, the former Chrysler Group marketer, Microsoft has chosen an insider to head the global marketing effort for its Interactive Entertainment Business, which includes the Xbox 360. Michael Delman, who joined Microsoft in 1990 as communications director, takes on the new job in August.

Delman has held several key marketing positions inside of Microsoft in his 18-year career. In his most recent post, corporate vice president of Global Marketing Communications Group, Delman was responsible for advertising, marketing and events for most of Microsoft’s businesses. He also ran the company’s relationships with advertising agencies McCann Worldgroup and Young & Rubicam Brands, worth $1 billion.

He served earlier stints at the head of the MSN Internet access business and as marketing director for Microsoft in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Bell is leaving Microsoft “to pursue other opportunities” after only two years on the job.

Delman, who will report to Don Mattrick, himself a relatively new face in the company’s Interactive Entertainment Business. Delman’s responsibilities include marketing for Microsoft Game Studios games, Xbox and the Games for Windows and global marketing for Xbox Live.
