Reports: AOL-Microsoft meeting today to advance possible deal talks

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Time Warner and Microsoft are talking more seriously about a possible deal.

From the story, which cites unnamed people familiar with the situation:

“Microsoft and Time Warner have been casually exploring a combination of AOL and Microsoft’s online group for several months as an alternative to Microsoft’s failed efforts to buy part or all of Yahoo. The discussions remain preliminary, with the shape of a deal yet to be sketched out, but a team from AOL has traveled to Seattle for the talks.”

The Journal report followed one from Reuters that suggested both Yahoo and Microsoft are talking with Time Warner with more urgency as Yahoo’s fateful Aug. 1 shareholder meeting approaches.
