Did anyone hear a cheer go up from RedWest just now? Microsoft’s Internet search-market share had its first up-tick this year, according to just-released data from comScore.
The company’s Live Search engine gained almost a percentage point of U.S. market share from May to June, though it still trails far behind Google.
Microsoft’s Live Search cashback program, launched in May, could be a contributor. The company said during its fourth-quarter earnings conference call Thursday afternoon that the program, which pays people who buy products they find through Live Search, has more than 200,000 registered users.
Yahoo’s search share also ticked up. Google’s fell slightly. The numbers:
Google: May: 61.8 percent; June: 61.5 percent; change: -0.3 percentage points
Yahoo: May: 20.6 percent; June: 20.9 percent; change: 0.2 percentage points
Microsoft: May: 8.5 percent; June: 9.2 percent; change: 0.7 percentage points
Ask Network: May: 4.5 percent; June: 4.3 percent; change: -0.2 percentage points
AOL LLC: May: 4.5 percent; June: 4.1 percent; change: -0.4 percentage points
