Microsoft vet gets new assignment at upper reaches of MSN

Yusuf Mehdi, the Microsoft veteran who’s had a number of key jobs at the company, has been named to head audience marketing at MSN and search business.

Mehdi, a senior vice president, had been working on business development and strategic partnerships, including the acquisition of aQuantive and the attempt to buy Yahoo.

For Mehdi, it’ll be a homecoming of sorts. In his explanation of the move, Brier Dudley noted that Mehdi had led the MSN engineering group from 2000 to 2005.

In the new position, Mehdi will report to the successor of Kevin Johnson, who had been president of the Platforms and Services Division. That position remains vacant.
