Welcome to Microsoft Pri0: That's Microspeak for top priority, and that's the news and observations you'll find here from Seattle Times technology reporter Matt Day.

Coming up: Ballmer gives Wall Street an update; Microsoft’s science fair

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and CFO Chris Liddell will give their annual strategic update to Wall Street analysts tomorrow morning at 5 a.m. You can find a link to the Web cast on Microsoft’s Investor Relations page and check back for coverage. This is still a relatively new event on Microsoft’s calendar. Liddell implemented it in 2007, after surprising Wall Street with big spending plans in spring 2006. The event is a preview of the coming year. But at the company’s last quarterly earnings report, Liddell said uncertainty in the broader economy was so great in the coming six months that Microsoft would not give sales or earnings forecasts for the second half of the current fiscal year, which ends June 30. So, we’ll see…

Also tomorrow, Microsoft Researchers show off their wares at the company’s annual TechFest science fair. The event is mainly designed to help connect Microsoft product groups with new technology ginned up in the research group, but the company also opens the event to media. Check out Brier Dudley’s blog for coverage.
