LAS VEGAS — While some of the gee whiz advances in televisions here at the Consumer Electronics will trickle down to your local electronics store, it will be years before it’s available at a price that is affordable to the mass market.
I ran across a Vizio display area, the popular, economy-class, flat-screen, high-definition televisions popular at Costco.
Vizio says Via, its Internet-connected televisions, is coming to Costco this February, for $1,999 for a 52-inch LED television. Vizio says to expect door-buster specials by the holidays at Wal-Mart as well. The 42-inch version, which is not LED, will be priced starting at $1,000 and available in the summer.
The televisions will have widgets on Yahoo’s TV platform such as Twitter, Netflix and Pandora. The remote control will run on Bluetooth and have a slide-out keyboard to update your status. It does not have a browser.
