Google pays workers more than Microsoft, Amazon

The median salary for a mid-career Google employee is $14,000 higher than the median Microsoft salary.

PayScale.com, an online compensation data firm, reported Monday how compensation compares at top technology companies, including Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook and Amazon.com.

The median salary at Google for someone who has 9 years of tenure is $141,000. The median salary at Microsoft for someone who has 9 years of tenure is $127,000. At Amazon.com, the median salary is $110,000 for someone with 8 years of tenure.

At the starting end, Microsoft pays higher than Google. The median starting pay is $86,900 at Microsoft, compared to $82,600 at Google. Amazon.com’s median starting pay is $72,200.

In April, Microsoft said it would make a significant investment in employee compensation, which will take effect later this year when the company does its performance reviews. The company did not give out financial details. Here is our Seattle Times story on the changes Microsoft made to compensation.
