A few sharp-eyed folks noticed an Oct. 7 deadline mentioned for Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype in a Reuters listing of European Union mergers listings.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the acquisition will get the nod on or before that date, cautions Mary-Jo Foley at ZDNet. The European antitrust watchers could OK the deal with conditions, announce there will be further investigation or even deny approval.
But it does appear to be a step toward getting EU antitrust regulators’ approval, which must be obtained before the deal can be finalized.
Microsoft announced in June its plan to purchase Skype for $8.5 billion. U.S. regulators approved the deal in June.
